Governor George Natembeya quits Wamlwa’s DAP-K Party
Trans Nzoia Governor and DAP Kenya deputy leader George Natembeya has announced his departure from the political party, amid political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an interview on Wednesday, July 8, Natembeya said his decision followed disagreement with the party leader, Eugene Wamalwa.
According to Natembeya, Wamalwa refused to grant him the opportunity to expand DAP-K from a regional outfit into a broader national movement.
“I requested Hon. Eugene Wamalwa to grant me the opportunity to expand DAP-K into a broader national movement. Unfortunately, he declined. Consequently, I have no other option but to quit.” Natembeya stated.
The decision comes days after the governor hosted Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna and other Linda Mwananchi leaders at his Trans Nzoia home.
During the meeting, the leaders agreed to form a new political outfit ahead of the 2027 elections that they will use to woo Kenyans to vote for them.

According to sources close to the leaders, the July 5 meeting brought together community elders from the western region and leaders who announced a political roadmap for the region ahead of elections.
“As part of that roadmap, they announced that a new political party will soon be unveiled to carry the movement’s vision,” a close ally of Sifuna said.
According to Natembeya, the leaders endorsed Sifuna to vie for the presidency in 2027 while he will concentrate on securing a second term as Trans Nzoia Governor.
“The roadmap will begin with a major Linda Mwananchi rally in Trans Nzoia on July 25, followed by the mother of all rallies in Bungoma County on July 26, where Edwin Sifuna will be crowned the Luhya leader before being released to focus on his national campaign,” stated political strategist Pauline Njoroge, who is also a member of Linda Mwananchi.
His announcement comes after months of disagreement within the DAP-K party, with Natembeya stating he planned to quit the party in 2025.
