Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has called for Kenyans to maintain peace ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking on Friday, August 28, Tuju asked Kenyans not to take peace and stability for granted, adding that he would rather have a bad government in office, as long as peace prevails.
He added that as a journalist, he visited several countries which had plunged into political instability, and warned that Kenya should not even dream of plunging into anarchy.
“I was in Rwanda in 1994 as a young journalist. I covered South Sudan, Liberia, Mozambique, and let me tell you, you do not want us to get there.
“I’d rather have even the worst government, but have peace until we have an orderly transfer of power,” Tuju stated.
The ex-CS opened up about his discussion with the late Raila Odinga at the National Tallying Centre at the Bomas of Kenya during the 2022 Presidential Election.
He claimed that he advised Raila that he needed to do everything to make sure that peace prevailed in Kenya, adding that the discussions gave birth to the Broad-based government.

“The meeting was held in my house with Sifuna, Joe Ager, Oburu Oginga, Junet Mohamed and Prof Adams Oloo. What informed the decision was that we could not have a haphazard, violent, and disorganised change of government in our country,” he stated.
Tuju noted that some of the countries which had gone into political instability had never recovered.
He reminded the ODM leaders in the Broad-Based Government that the main reason why the union was formed was for peace, and called out the attack in Homa Bay.
Earlier, Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’ had called on peaceful coexistence among leaders and residents of Luo Nyanza, despite having divergent political views.
Kajwang’ noted that no Kenyan should attack their fellows over political views, and called for maturity among political leaders.
