Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has sensationally claimed that if the International Criminal Court (ICC) were to probe the issue of goons in Kenya, then Siaya Governor James Orengo would be the first on the hangman’s noose.
Speaking on Friday, August 21, Murkomen singled out Orengo as the politician who allegedly worked with the biggest number of goons in the country.
He accused him and Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino of masterminding the attack in Homa Bay County, only to cry wolf afterwards.
Murkomen claimed that if the officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had not intercepted the goons from Nairobi, Kisumu and Siaya Counties, the situation could have been worse.
“Secondly, Orengo and Babu had mobilised goons from Nairobi, but the DCI intercepted them en route to Homa Bay. Some of the goons managed to sneak into Homa Bay because they walked with Orengo.
“Now they are calling upon the ICC. If we call them, Orengo would be hanged even before the case is heard because he is known to be working with the worst goons in the country. Just because I am quiet, it doesn’t mean we don’t know,” he stated.
The Interior CS questioned why Orengo, Babu, and the Linda Mwananchi team decided to proceed with the tour despite having intel of a planned attack and a warning from law enforcement.

He also went after DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua for consistently demanding that he, Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, and National Police Service Inspector General Douglas Kanja resign.
He claimed that he and his colleagues were doing their job to safeguard Kenyans. The CS dismissed claims that the goon menace had begun, and even gone out of hand under President William Ruto’s administration.
“If Gachagua were not contesting any elective seat, he would not be speaking about goons. The narrative he is trying to portray that the issue of goons started with Ruto is false.
“In 2021, Ruto was stoned in Kieni during his campaigns. The same happened in Kondele, Kisumu County. Was I the Interior CS at the time? When he mobilised goons to steal from Uhuru’s farm, didn’t he know that they were bad?” Murkomen posed.
The CS explained that he no longer addressed the issue of goons because it only affected politicians, who were hiring youths to fight political battles.
However, he warned leaders against dragging their personal tiffs to the common citizen, and advised them to settle their scores away from the people.
“I have people claim that Murkomen has not talked about goons. If it was a problem of the common mwananchi, maybe I would have, but these politicians, who form 0.00001 percent want us to leave our jobs to talk about goons.
