Kanze Dena responds to reports that Uhuru declined meeting with Gachagua

The Spokesperson in the Office of the Fourth President, Kanze Dena, has dismissed claims that Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta declined to meet DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua.

Kanze, in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 12, flagged a letter to be authored by her as ‘fake news’.

According to the doctored document, Uhuru’s office admits to having received multiple requests seeking an audience with Gachagua, which was purportedly declined.

“It is equally confirmed that HE Uhuru Kenyatta has considered these requests carefully and had declined them. No meeting has taken place, none is scheduled, and none is being contemplated,” the document flagged as fake claimed.

The letter further claimed that the former Head of State declined to meet Gachagua because he does not align with his values, including bringing people together for a national purpose.

“The retired President has, over a sustained period, observed with concern a pattern of behaviour from Gachagua that speaks to a disposition ill-suited to the collaborative demands of national leadership.

“His serial antagonism of partners and public humiliation of allies, the inability to sustain working relationships without reducing them to conflicts, and a style of political engagement that prioritises personal dominance over collective progress,” the letter read in part.

The doctored letter circulated online barely a month after Gachagua declared that once he was done with the engagement fora in Wamunyoro, he would hold talks with Uhuru on how to chart the way forward.

“Uhuru and I are like peas in a pod, and when I am done with my consultation fora, I will have a sit-down with him before I make a final decision on the way forward. I will ask him for his advice because he once warned us, but we ignored him,” Gachagua noted.

He further confirmed that he and Uhuru were working together and would provide guidance to the Mount Kenya region in the upcoming  2027 General Election.

Earlier, the members of the United Opposition held a meeting amid talks of separation in the camp. The principals maintained that they were committed to field a single candidate to face President William Ruto on the ballot.
