“Sifuna will not be a Presidential candidate in 2027” – MP Silvanus Osoro
South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro has expressed confidence that President William Ruto will secure a second term in the 2027 General Election, arguing that the opposition currently lacks a candidate capable of mounting a serious challenge.
Osoro claims that the political landscape had shifted significantly following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, whom he described as the strongest electoral threat Ruto had previously faced.
According to Osoro, the opposition’s current political activities and efforts to unite against the Kenya Kwanza administration do not worry the ruling side.
“2027 is the easiest election for Ruto to win. The only person who used to pose danger to us was Raila Odinga, but now he is not there,” Osoro said during an interview on Herman Manyora’s podcast on Friday, August 8, 2026.
The legislator also dismissed speculation surrounding opposition leaders such as former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, arguing that neither is positioning themselves for the presidency in 2027.
“Sifuna will not be a Presidential candidate in 2027,” Osoro stated, adding that he believes opposition politicians are more interested in securing parliamentary positions that would give them leverage to negotiate with Ruto after the election.

Osoro further brushed aside the growing “Wantam” narrative, which has been used by Ruto’s critics to campaign against a second presidential term.
He said the ruling coalition understands Gachagua’s political strategy because of their previous working relationship and therefore does not consider him a major threat.
Among the opposition figures, Osoro singled out Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka as the politician he considers comparatively more capable of mounting a challenge against Ruto.
“The only politician you can take seriously when it comes to the opposition is Kalonzo Musyoka. He is an experienced politician and has been around for a while. He has been able to solidify the Kamba votes into one block,” Osoro said.
His remarks come as opposition leaders intensify efforts to build a united political front ahead of the 2027 election, while the Ruto administration continues its mobilisation efforts amid criticism over its record in government.
