7 people dead, 30 injured as bus carrying family member to dowry ceremony rolls in Makueni
At least seven people have been confirmed dead and more than 30 others seriously injured after a 45-seater matatu lost control and rolled several times in Ikangavya Sub-location, along the Emali–Ukia road in Makueni County.
The vehicle was carrying family members and friends from Nthongoni in Kibwezi East who were travelling to Maumba area in Ikangavya for a dowry ceremony.
The injured were taken to various health facilities, including Makueni County Referral Hospital and Matiliku Sub-County Hospital, for treatment.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, the matatu lost its brakes while descending a steep section of the road before rolling several times.
“A matatu carrying an estimated 50 passengers from Ivingoni Ward to Kyathi lost control, veered off the road, and rolled several times at Kalembwani, Makueni County,” the organisation wrote.
Kenya Red Cross confirmed that a multi-agency response involving its team, Makueni County disaster management officials, and police was deployed to the scene, though the organisation did not immediately provide a casualty count as rescue and scene-clearance operations continued.
