Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan defects to DCP

Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan Abdi has defected from the Jubilee Party to Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

This came during a DCP event at Headquarters in Nairobi on August 25, marking his end in the Jubilee Party and a new political chapter ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Yusuf, who has served as Kamukunji MP under the Jubilee Party, has now announced ambitions to go for a third term as MP for Kamukunji under his new political outfit and has since announced his 2027 presidential ambitions to rally support for Gachagua.

“We are now in DCP, and we have decided to support Rigathi Gachagua in his 2027 Presidential ambitions,” Yusuf stated.

Therefore, Yusuf now joins the growing list of Jubilee political bigwigs who have officially joined DCP, including Embahkasi East MP Mark Mwenje and Starehe MP Amos Mwago, thus leaving Nairobi County with no Jubilee aspirant ahead of the 2027 elections.

Gachagua took the opportunity to congratulate Hassan, stating that his joining the party will not only strengthen it in the competitive Nairobi County landscape but also benefit the Somali Community, which has long been marginalised.

“I want to personally welcome MP Hassan into the DCP Vehicle as he forges a new path. You joining the party will not only fortify the party, but also create a wider onclusion of the Somali community into the wider leadership space,” Gachagua stated.

Additionally, during the same event, Gachagua received more Nairobi Jubilee Members of County Assembly (MCAs) into the party, including chairpersons from all Nairobi constituencies.

The delegation was brought into DCP by Former Starehe MP Maina Kamanda, who serves as the National Chairperson of the Council of Eminent Persons in DCP and was formerly a political broker in the then-ruling Jubilee Party.
