UDA, ODM set up team to develop joint manifesto for 2027 elections

The broad-based coalition has formed a joint committee to develop a manifesto in preparation for the 2027 General Elections.

In a statement on Tuesday, October 27, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party revealed key details of the upcoming manifesto, stating that the coalition intends to use President William Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) as its foundation.

The joint committee will identify areas where the existing policies have not fully delivered and will also accelerate national transformation.

“The Broad-Based Committee on Manifesto Development, constituted by the Joint Parliamentary Group of the UDA and ODM parties, has made significant progress in drafting the joint coalition’s commitments,” UDA stated.

“Building on the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), the coalition heads into the 2027 General Election with a credible track record and a firm resolve to consolidate the gains made so far,” it added.

The new coalition will be anchored in President Ruto’s new philosophy, Usawa ni Sawa (translated as “equity for all”), which the party says will drive Ruto’s equalisation agenda to every part of the country.

“The new coalition manifesto will be anchored on the Usawa Ni Sawa philosophy, accelerating national transformation by building on existing achievements, addressing outstanding challenges, and delivering greater prosperity for every Kenyan,” UDA said.

The development comes months after the two parties agreed to form a coalition on whose ticket Ruto will vie for a second term as president in the August 2027 elections.

During the UDA-ODM joint Parliamentary Group in August, the parties agreed to formally form a coalition, with a joint manifesto outlining their agenda for the next election, formalising the partnership that has emerged under the broad-based government.

“After consultations within our respective parties and formations, the Kenya Kwanza and Orange Democratic Movement have today formally resolved to develop a joint manifesto for the next election and constitute a coalition to contest the 2027 General Election,” Ruto said.

Besides the steps taken to draft the manifesto, the coalition faces the hard task of identifying a possible running mate for Ruto after ODM maintained that they must be given that position if at all they are perceived as equal partners in the coalition.
