Babu Owino limits Linda Mwananchi rallies, shifts focus to Nairobi
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has said he will scale back his attendance at Linda Mwananchi rallies as he shifts his focus to mobilising support for the movement in Nairobi ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Addressing the press in Nairobi, Babu said he would continue attending some of the rallies but would miss others because of the extensive work required to organise and campaign across the capital.
He said his decision was informed by the size of Nairobi, which has 85 wards and close to 2.5 million registered voters.
“Nairobi has 85 wards. I know it is not easy: the resources it needs, the work it needs. It is a big city, it is the capital city,” he said.
Babu said he would instead concentrate on building Linda Mwananchi’s support base in the capital, including campaigning for the movement’s presidential candidate, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
“I want to shift my focus to Nairobi and deliver it to Linda Mwananchi. And also mobilising and campaigning for Linda Mwananchi,” he said.
He said the decision did not amount to abandoning the movement’s rallies, but was a strategic shift towards Nairobi, which he considers critical to the group’s electoral prospects.
Babu’s comments also came as he positioned himself for the Nairobi governor’s race, saying he was ready to ask residents to elect him to lead the county.
He said his mobilisation efforts in Nairobi would therefore serve both the Linda Mwananchi campaign and his own political ambitions.

The MP said he would seek to convince Nairobi residents to back him by pointing to his record in Embakasi East, where he said he had delivered various projects, including ongoing road construction.
Babu challenged Nairobi residents to assess his performance in Embakasi East before deciding whether he was capable of leading the county.
“Some people have been asking, ‘Oh, you vote for Babu in Nairobi, and you will see who he is. Why can’t those people in Embakasi East say who I am?’ Clearly, they’ve seen who I am. They know who I am,” he said.
The MP pointed to ongoing road construction and other projects in Embakasi East as evidence of his record.
He urged residents who were unfamiliar with his work to visit the constituency and assess the projects for themselves.
“If you don’t know what I’ve done in the Embakasi East constituency, take a walk. Go to the Embakasi East constituency,” he said.
Babu said the constituency’s large population and representation had given him an opportunity to demonstrate his ability to deliver services to residents.
He cited an ongoing road-tarmacking project as one of the developments he said demonstrated his contribution to the constituency.
