Esther Passaris makes a U-turn to defend her Nairobi Woman Representative seat
On Saturday, August 22, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris announced that she will defend her seat in the August 2027 General Elections.
Passaris formally launched her bid alongside her new campaign song, which endorses her for a third term.
“My name is Esther Muthoni Passaris, and in 353 days, I will be defending my seat as the Nairobi County Woman Representative in the 2027 General Election,” the Woman Rep announced.
Passaris’ announcement today means that she has dropped her bid to run for Makadara Constituency Member of Parliament (MP).
She declared on February 23 that she would run for MP, stating it would offer her an opportunity to contribute significantly to the constituency’s development.
The Woman Rep. admitted that she picked Makadara over Westlands because the seat would be vacant, since the incumbent MP, George Aladwa, had whispered to her that he would run for Nairobi Governor.

In November 2025, she publically declared that she would not contest for the Woman Rep position after serving two terms in office, adding that it was time to pass the baton to the next eligible female leader.
“By 2027, God willing, I will have completed two full terms as Nairobi Woman Rep. This is an affirmative action seat, and I believe it is time for another woman to lead,” she explained.
Passaris will face off with Nominated Senators Karen Nyamu and Tabitha Mutinda of UDA, and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) aspirant Millicent Omanga.
ODM Nominated Senator Crystal Asige has also been linked to the seat, but has not officially confirmed that she would join the battle to unseat Passaris.
If re-elected in 2027, she will join Siaya Counterpart Dr Christine Ombaka, who is the only Woman Representative who has served for three terms.
Ombaka was the inaugural Woman Member of the National Assembly, having been elected in 2013, and defended her seat in 2017 and 2022.
