A train collided with a bus in Githurai on Friday evening after the vehicle attempted to cross the railway tracks, leaving both vehicles and nearby property badly damaged.
Circulating accounts indicate that no fatalities or serious injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred at around 6:30pm.
CCTV footage showed the bus crossing the tracks at a sustained speed when the train crashed into its driver’s side before it could clear the area.
The impact pushed the bus along the tracks, also dragging a parked vehicle and damaging a nearby structure before the train came to a stop.
Other vehicles in the area were affected as debris was scattered around the scene following the collision.
Dust and smoke briefly engulfed the area, while bystanders were seen running away from the crash.
The bus driver was seen emerging from the vehicle quickly after the crash as witnesses gathered at the scene.
The train involved was marked 9306, reportedly identified as one operating the Nairobi Central Station-Ruiru route passenger service, which was passing through Githurai when the collision occurred.

The latest incident adds to recent railway accidents involving passenger services as attention remains on safety along railway routes and areas where roads intersect the tracks.
The vehicle involved was a Githurai 45 SACCO bus, reportedly travelling from Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) to Githurai.
The crash comes days after a Nairobi-Nyahururu passenger train partially derailed at Ol Kalou Railway Station, where two wheels of one coach came off the tracks without immediate reports of injuries.
Last month, Kenya Railways issued a safety warning urging the public to use authorised crossing points, check for approaching trains, and never attempt to outrun or cross in front of a moving train.
