KNEC rolls out platform to download digital KCSE certificate online; How to access

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has formally rolled out the new digital platform that allows Kenyans to access, download and verify their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificates online.

To help Kenyans access their digital certificates, KNEC on Tuesday, July 21, released a step-by-step guide to help applicants navigate and sign up for the e-certificates.

According to the examination council, applicants should first visit the e-certificate portal, ecertificate.knec.ac.ke, and create an account by selecting the Applicant (Student/Alumni) option.

During registration, users are required to provide their email address, after which a One-Time Password (OTP) valid for 10 minutes will be sent for verification.

Those with existing accounts can simply log in using their registered email address and request a new OTP to access the dashboard.

After logging in, applicants must update their profile by providing details such as their citizenship, full name, date of birth, phone number, and national identification number where applicable.

To generate the digital certificate, users should click the Generate e-Certificate option and enter their KCSE index number, examination type, and the year they sat the examination, covering certificates issued from 1989 to 2025.

The system will automatically verify the details entered, and once verification is successful, applicants will be prompted to pay a Ksh1,500 processing fee through a mobile money payment application.

After payment is confirmed, the digital KCSE certificate becomes available for download in Portable Document Format (PDF).

KNEC also noted that the platform enables certificate holders to verify and share their academic credentials with employers, institutions, or other third parties.

Users can generate a verification report by entering the recipient’s details and selecting their preferred delivery method, such as email.

The move is expected to simplify access to KCSE certificates, reduce paperwork and make it easier for graduates to present verified academic credentials for employment, further studies and other official purposes.
