Matiang'i announces joint rally with Martha Karua and Ndindi Nyoro

Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i, People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua and People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) leader Ndindi Nyoro are set to hold a joint rally in Njoro, Nakuru County, on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, as opposition leaders step up efforts to build a united front ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The three leaders will hold a meet-the-people tour in Njoro town from 2 pm, according to an announcement shared ahead of the event.

The planned rally comes as Matiang’i and Karua back Nyoro’s inclusion in the opposition, even as some allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have questioned the Kiharu MP’s political intentions following his exit from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Their joint appearance will bring together leaders of three political parties at a time when opposition figures are holding consultations and seeking common ground ahead of the next election.

Matiang’i has publicly welcomed Nyoro’s decision to join PPK, signalling his willingness to work with the lawmaker despite questions raised by some opposition figures about the new party’s role.

On August 18, 2026, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary congratulated Nyoro on launching the political vehicle and expressed confidence that the move could create opportunities for cooperation among opposition parties.

“Congratulations, my brother and friend, Hon. Ndindi Nyoro, on the launch of the People’s Party of Kenya,” Matiang’i wrote on X.

He described the move as a reflection of Kenya’s multiparty democracy and said it could strengthen the opposition’s efforts to offer alternative leadership.

“Your latest decision will create more opportunities for effective political participation while enhancing our collective chances of restoring better leadership in our country,” he said.

Matiang’i later appeared alongside Nyoro at political rallies in Kajiado County on October 14, 2026, where the two called on opposition leaders to stop attacking one another and focus on issues affecting Kenyans.

“Let’s unite in the opposition. Our job now is to ensure there is change in our country. We don’t have time for infighting. That’s not being smart,” Matiang’i said.

Karua has also defended the need to accommodate Nyoro in the opposition’s broader political arrangements, with the planned Njoro meeting providing another opportunity for the three leaders to demonstrate cooperation across party lines.

Nyoro’s growing association with Matiang’i has, however, drawn criticism from some leaders allied to Gachagua, particularly Nyandarua Senator John Methu and Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa.

Methu, who is the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) secretary-general designate, questioned Nyoro’s commitment to the opposition during a television interview on October 11, 2026.

He accused the Kiharu MP of being a mole working for President William Ruto and claimed the Head of State could use PPK to divide opposition support ahead of the 2027 election.
