Mike Sonko’s daughter Saumu Mbuvi joins Nairobi Woman Representative race
Saumu Mbuvi, daughter of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, has announced her bid to become the next Nairobi County Women Representative on the National Economic Development Party (NEDP) ticket.
Saumu formally declared her intention to vie for the seat, saying she is offering herself for public service with a focus on expanding opportunities for women, young people and vulnerable families across Nairobi.
“I am not stepping forward because leadership is a title. I am stepping forward because leadership is a responsibility, a covenant with the people, and an opportunity to turn lived realities into meaningful action,” Mbuvi said.
Her campaign agenda is anchored on four key areas education and skills, jobs and enterprise, health and wellbeing, and a safer and inclusive Nairobi.
Mbuvi said she wants to promote more opportunities for women and girls, support women entrepreneurs and create pathways to decent employment.
She also identified youth unemployment, entrepreneurship, skills development and social protection as some of the issues requiring greater attention in the city.
“My vision is to contribute to a Nairobi where representation translates into results,” she said.

Mbuvi said her vision is for a city where women are economically empowered and young people are treated as partners in shaping Nairobi’s future rather than merely as voters.
Her announcement comes as political activity begins to intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election, with several aspirants positioning themselves for elective positions across Nairobi.
Mbuvi is campaigning under the banner “A New Voice for a Brighter Nairobi”, with the message “Equal Voices. Real Opportunities. Lasting Change.”
Her proposed priorities include expanding access to education and skills, improving healthcare and wellbeing, supporting enterprise and creating a safer and more inclusive environment for women.
Mbuvi will seek the Nairobi County Women Representative seat on the NEDP ticket.
However, the NEDP has reiterated that all aspirants will be required to undergo party primaries, ruling out direct nominations. The party said only candidates who emerge victorious in the primaries will be cleared to represent NEDP in the respective elective seats.
