A junior secondary school teacher linked to the murder of prison warder Abigail Chepkemoi in Bomet County was found dead under unclear circumstances in Baringo County on Saturday, July 26.
Police confirmed the discovery in Eldama Ravine just hours after Chepkemoi was found dead at her residence in Bomet County.
According to police, preliminary investigations indicate the teacher may have died by suicide after allegedly killing the prison warder, although investigations into both deaths are ongoing.
The teacher had emerged as the prime suspect in Chepkemoi’s murder as detectives sought to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
The latest development came just hours after Chepkemoi was found dead at her residence in Bomet County, prompting police to launch investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Sotik Sub-County Police Commander Sammy Choge confirmed the incident, saying detectives had secured the scene and were collecting evidence to establish what transpired.
Preliminary investigations pointed to a suspected love triangle as a possible motive, although police said they were still piecing together the events leading to the incident.

“We got a report that we have lost one of our officers who worked under the Kenya Prisons Service in Sotik. We are examining the crime scene and have collected exhibits. Right now we cannot discuss all the details; we will explain the findings after investigations are complete. At this point, it is a suspected love triangle suicide,” Choge said.
Police, however, emphasised that investigations were still ongoing and cautioned against drawing conclusions before forensic examinations and witness statements are analysed.
Detectives are also examining a message allegedly sent by the teacher to a group shortly after the incident, which investigators believe could provide crucial leads into the sequence of events.
The body of the prison warder was moved to Kaplong Mission Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities have appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to report to the nearest police station as detectives continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the two deaths.
