You are a juvenile politician, don’t overrate yourself - Mbadi to Babu Owino

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has downplayed the popularity of Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino.

‎Speaking during a church service in Suba South on Sunday, Mbadi took issue with recent remarks by Babu, who vowed to ensure that Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma is not re-elected in the 2027 General Election.

“He said that he will come to Homa Bay to oust Kaluma. Who is Babu Owino? You know you can overrate yourself. This guy is a young man, he is a juvenile politician who got into politics the other day. If he wants to test his popularity in Homa Bay, let him try Homa Bay town,” said Mbadi.

The treasury CS further vowed to mobilise support for Kaluma.

“I know Homa Bay people will decide, but even I, John Mbadi, have followers in Homa Bay town who want to give me Homa Bay votes. I will make sure Kaluma is re-elected. Homa Bay has its people,” he added.

The former ODM chairman also vowed to mobilise support for President William Ruto in the area.

‎Nyanza leaders aligned with the broad-based government on Sunday also warned Linda Mwananchi movement against visiting the region with intentions of causing chaos.

‎Mbadi dared Babu Owino and Siaya Governor James Orengo to test their political popularity in Homa Bay, insisting that the county’s political direction would be determined by its residents.

‎Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko echoed Mbadi’s sentiments, saying political leaders should not visit communities to provoke chaos and still expect a warm reception from residents.

‎Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi also weighed in, accusing Governor Orengo of working against the interests of the Luo community.

Sudi urged the veteran politician to retire from active politics and allow the community to benefit from its participation in government.

‎The remarks come amid heightened political tensions in the Nyanza region, where rival leaders continue to clash over the region’s political future and alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
