“Don’t come back if Ruto loses 2027”- UoE lecturer warns students
A University of Eldoret (UoE) lecturer has found himself at the centre of a social media storm after a video emerged showing him making partisan political remarks to students in class.
The university don warned that those who believe President William Ruto will serve only one term should not return to the institution if he loses the 2027 election.
In the footage, the lecturer is heard telling his students that Ruto will win re-election and serve a full second term, pushing back against murmurs from students who referred to the president as “wantam,” a slang term meaning a one-term leader.
Visibly irritated by the students’ scepticism, the don issued a pointed warning, telling them to prepare to leave the university if the president loses his re-election bid. “Don’t be cheated that Ruto is one term. You MCA, your MP, your senator will be one term. But mark the day, this man will go for…” he said, before some students interjected with “one term.” He continued: “If he goes for one term, come to the university next year. Go to the university at your home. Don’t step in this school. Let’s learn with our children and our university.”

The lecturer also appeared to direct his remarks along regional lines, suggesting that students from Mount Kenya should attend universities in that area, and that the same applied to students from Western Kenya.
He further defended Ruto’s record in office, comparing his tenure to those of former presidents Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta, arguing that neither attracted the same “one term” criticism.
“Our son is performing very well. During Kibaki’s time you didn’t say one term. During Uhuru’s time you didn’t say one term, then now our son, our own son, who is a doctor,” he said.
