Missing Activist Mulinge Muteti found dumped in Machakos
Activist Boniface Mulinge Muteti has been found after going missing for four days, with Human Rights Activist Hussein Khalid saying he was found dumped in the Lukenya area of Machakos on Friday morning.
Khalid said Muteti was found at around 3am on Friday, September 25, before walking a long distance to a petrol station where a good Samaritan helped him contact his brother.
“He was dumped last night around 3am in the Lukenya area. He had to walk a long distance to a petrol station where he got a good Samaritan who helped him with a phone to call his brother,” Khalid said.
According to the activist and the CEO of Vocal Africa, Muteti was distressed, weak, and injured and was receiving treatment at Sanel Hospital in the Mlolongo area, where his family, friends, and fellow activists visited him.
“He is disoriented, weak and injured. He is currently receiving treatment at Sanel Hospital in the Mlolongo area. Family, friends and comrades are proceeding there,” he added.
The latest development comes after Muteti went missing on Monday, September 21, following protests in Nairobi’s Central Business District calling for the release of detained Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye.

Reports indicated that Muteti had left the main protest group to visit a cybercafe and print a petition intended for submission to police, after which his whereabouts became unknown.
His last communication was a message saying that he had been arrested, after which his phone became unreachable, and efforts by his family and fellow activists to establish his whereabouts were unsuccessful.
His sudden disappearance sparked concern among his family and human rights organisations, including the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) and Vocal Africa, which demanded his immediate release.
The human rights organisations and Muteti’s family went ahead to report the incident at the Central Police Station in Nairobi as efforts to trace him intensified.
The case was subsequently taken to the Milimani Law Courts, which on Thursday, September 24, issued directives requiring the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to account for Muteti’s whereabouts.
The court intervention came after concerns that the activist could have been arrested and detained following his participation in the Nairobi CBD protests.
Police have yet to respond to the accusations of the alleged abduction.
