‘We’ll monitor your activities every minute until 2027’ – Murkomen warns Gachagua

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has declared that monitoring former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s activities will be his primary focus until the 2027 General Election, accusing him of orchestrating violence and vowing to firmly deal with him. 

Speaking at Kaptilol Grounds in Kaptarakwa Ward, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, on Saturday, Murkomen claimed Gachagua posed a threat to national security and public order, saying security agencies would closely track his movements and activities.

“Rigathi Gachagua, my business now until Kenya crosses 2027 safely is to monitor your activities in the Republic of Kenya. Hiyo kazi nitafanya usiku na mchana, you’re my single most point of focus because of the threat you’re posing as the father of violence,” Murkomen stated. 

“Now that you’ve abrogated the duty of instilling fear and violence, naming Kenyans and blackmailing them, I want to tell you that we will deal with you firmly.”

The Interior CS further alleged that Gachagua had been soliciting money from political aspirants, intimidating some of them and using the funds to organise criminal gangs, claims for which he did not provide evidence.

“I know that you have been collecting money from potential aspirants, intimidating some of them, promising them certificates. We know the money you’re collecting, you’re using it to prepare goons, we will deal with you,” he claimed.

Murkomen also alleged that Gachagua had been intimidating businesses that had declined to finance his political activities, adding that security agencies were monitoring his every move.

“You must know that we know all your activities, intimidating businesses that have refused to give you campaign money, using goons and criminals in Mt Kenya and other parts. I want to tell you that we’re monitoring your activities every minute. Nikitoka hapa nataka kujua ulipitia wapi na watu wa gani unatembea nao,” he said.

Murkomen maintained that while he would be accommodating to law-abiding citizens, he would take a hardline approach against those accused of planning violence.

Responding to what he described as threats from the former Deputy President, Murkomen dismissed the remarks, saying any action taken against Gachagua would remain within the law.

“Sometimes I see him threatening me. Oh you will be taken to which court, to which court? Between me and Gachagua, who knows the law? I am not just a lawyer, I am a teacher of law. So please go and look for other people to threaten. We will deal with you perpendicularly and that dealing with you will still be under the law,” he stated.
